The Spina Bifida statistics for Illinois are as follows: About 2.86 babies out of 10,000 births are born with this medical problem according to data collected during the years of 2001-2005. Today, an estimated 3,690 people are living in Illinois who are affected with this health issue. Illinois has 4.1 million women who are of child bearing age: Some are expected to give birth to children affected with SB.
Around 15 percent of the people residing in Illinois (1.9 million) are of Hispanic origin (people of Hispanic origin are at more risk of SB). The state of Illinois has five SB clinics that provide help to those affected with this medical condition. In Chicago, there are three Spina Bifida clinics, hospitals and doctors. There is one SB clinic in Peoria and one in Park Ridge.
The SB Association of Illinois offers aid and support services to those affected with this birth defect in the state.
