The Spina Bifida statistics for North Carolina are as follows: In the state 4.21 babies out of 10,000 births have been affected with this birth defect. The data was collected during the years of 2001-2005. The data shows a decrease in the number of babies who have been born with this medical problem when compared to the previous data.
An estimated 3,883 people are living with this medical condition in the state. Around 3 million women are residing in the state who are due to deliver and some are at risk of having babies with SB. The people of Hispanic origin make up 7 percent of the population which comes to 600,000 (Hispanics traditionally are at higher risk of SB).
There are six Spina Bifida clinics, hospitals and doctors who are in the state. They are located at Winston-Salem, Durham, Asheville, Charlotte, Chapel Hill, and Greenville.
